This course validates that the learner can navigate the framework, interpret controls, and connect them to real-world implementation. Focus areas: identifying the correct control family for a given scenario, reading and interpreting control entries (including enhancements and parameters), selecting the appropriate baseline from a FIPS 199 categorization, mapping controls across families to address a security gap, and distinguishing Rev 5 changes (PT, SR, outcome-based language) from Rev 4 structure. The student should leave this exam proving they can read, interpret, and reason about the framework — not that they memorized control numbers.
